Brake Maintenance
Adjusting the Parking Brake
Check the parking brake for proper adjustment.
1. Check tire pressure of all 4 tires. Refer to Checking
the Tire Pressure.
2. Disengage the brake lever (lever down).
3. Measure the distance vertically between the front
of the brake bar and the crown of the tire; the
measurement should be 7/8 inch to 1 inch (22 to
25 mm) (Figure 47).
4. If the measurement is not correct, proceed to the
following steps.
5. Remove the hairpin and cotter pin from the brake
linkage (Figure 48).

6. Adjust the yoke clockwise to shorten the distance;
counterclockwise to lengthen distance (Figure 47).
7. Measure the distance vertically between the front
of the brake bar and the crown of the tire; the
measurement should be 7/8 inch to 1 inch.
(Figure 48).
8. Repeat steps 5.@@@5 through 7.@@@5 if
additional adjustment is needed.
9. Engage the parking brake, with the lever up and
ensure the brake bar engages the tire (Figure 48).
10. Measure the length of the spring; the measurement
should be 2-3/4 inch (74 mm) between the washers
(Figure 48).
