Troubleshooting
guide
Before requesting service make the following checks
If you are in doubt about some of the check points or if the solutions indicated in the chart
do not solve the problem
refer to the Customer Services Directory
on page 95
The following
do not indicate
a problem with this umt:
• Regular disc rotating sounds
• Poor reception due to atmospheric
conditions
• Image disturbance during search
• Interruptions In reception due to periodic satellite broadcasting
breaks
• A sound is heard when the HDD goes _nto SLEEP mode or
operations are slow to respond in SLEEP mode
To reset this unit
To return the channel settings
and clock to the factory
preset
(No setting)
To return all the settings other
than the mare ones to the factory
_reset
To reset the ratings level settings
To restore the umt if it freezes
due to one of the safety devices
being acttvated
Power
No power.
The umt switches to standby
mode.
Displays
The display
is dim.
"12:00A"
ts flashing
on the unit's
dtsplay.
Compared to the actual recorded
time, the elapsed time displayed
is less.
The time recorded
on the disc
and the available
ttme shown do
not add up.
The play time shown for MP3
does not agree with the actual
time.
"U61" or "'U88" is displayed and
the disc cannot be ejected.

• When the HDD has been automattcally placed in the SLEEP mode

sound

• Press and hold [CH, ,, ] and [CH
] on the main unit for about 5 seconds
(Current channel hne-up and program IFstlngs are cleared )
• Select
Yes' tn Restore Default Setttngs' in the Setup menu
This returns all values in the Setup menus except for the clock, channel setttngs
ratings level
and on-screen language, to the default setttngs
• Whde the disc tray is open, press [DRIVE SELECT] to select the DVD dnve then press and
hold [O, REC] and [1_] on the main unit at the same t_me for 5 or more seconds
• Press and hold [POWER _) I] on the main unit for 10 seconds

• Insert the AC power supply cord securely tnto a known actwe AC outlet

It can be changed if destred using 'Off Ttmer' In the Setup
menu

(equal to 0 999 seconds) to one second

displayed and the actual elapsed ttme (e g actual one-hour elapsed t_me may dtsplay as

Th_s does not affect the recordtng
• Ttmes shown may dtsagree wtth actual ttmes
• Even _fyou delete recorded content from the DVD-R DVD-R DL +R or +R DL there Is no
increase rn disc space
•Avatlable
recordtng space on DVD-RW (DVD-Vldeo format) or +RW increases only when the
last recorded tttle Is deleted
It does not increase if other htles are deleted
• More d_sc space than the actual recording ttme is used after recordtng or edtttng the DVD-R
DVD-R DL, +R or +R DL 200 ttmes or more
• Whde searchtng, the elapsed ttme may not dtsplay correctly
• The umt is carrying out the recovery process
Do the following to eject the dtsc
_"_!; P ress [POWER (b/I] on the main untt to switch the unit to standby
If the untt doesnt swttch to standby, press and hold [POWER Lb/I] on the matn untt for about
10 seconds The untt _sforctbly switched to standby
,_",; W hile the umt Is off, press and hold [11] and [CH, , ] on the matn unit at the same hme for
about 5 seconds
Remove the dtsc
