BATTERY OPERATION

1. Remove battery com partm ent door (located on cabinet bottom )
by pressing it inward in d irection o f arrow and slide o ff cabinet
bottom .
2. Insert 4 " A A " -size batteries (not included) into battery com part­
ment. Be sure the ( + ) or cap end of each battery is installed as
shown inside the battery com partm ent.
3. Replace battery door.

BATTERIES
IMPORTANT: Be sure to remove the batteries when storing the set
fo r m ore than a few weeks at a tim e. Leaky batteries can badly
damage the recorder. Alw ays push STOP/EJECT b u tton before sto r­
ing. This w ill relieve pressure on certain parts in the recorder that
m ig ht deform a fte r long periods o f tim e.
NOTE: If the recorder develops problem s reading or loading data,
or if the tape reels turn very slo w ly o r not at all, check w ith a new set
of batteries use AC power or try another cassette before seeking
service.
AC POWER CONVERTER —

You can extend the life of the batteries substantially by using them
only w hen portable operation is required. Any tim e AC household
electrical pow er is available, you can use the AC Power Converter to
operate your recorder instead of using batteries. The batteries may
remain in the recorder when using the AC Power Converter.
The AC Power Converter plugs into the 6V DC PWR JACK on the
recorder (which autom atically d isco n n ects the batteries), and plugs
in to 120-volt AC household power.
PRELIMINARY SET UP
Interconnect cables are required to hook up your Data Recorder
w ith your home com puter. If you do not already have the required
ca|?le, check w ith your com puter dealer or refer to your com puter
handbook fo r recom m ended cable to use w ith yo u r computer.
1. Plug in the recorder's AC converter as described under "AC
Power Converter".
2. Plug interconnect cable to the Ear, M ic and Rem ote jacks on the
side of the Data Recorder and the other end to your home com pu­
ter. (Refer to co m p u te r handbook to ensure proper connection.)
3. Ensure SYSTEM sw itch, located on bo ttom o f Data Recorder is
set, to position marked "A L L OTHER" .
CASSETTE INSERTION
1. To insert or remove cassette when RECORD or PLAY button is
depressed, you m ust first press STOP/EJECT b utton (return all
b u tton s to o ff position), then depress STOP/EJECT button again
to open CASSETTE CARRY DOOR.
NOTE: An internal interlock prevents the cassette door from
opening unless all controls are in o ff
2. Insert cassette w ith the exposed tape facing the push buttons.
G ently slide into the CASSETTE CARRY DOOR w ith the full reel
of tape to the left.

IMPORTANT: To avoid possible loss o f data at the beginning of the
tape during recording or playback resulting in an " error" read/write
by the com puter, be sure the tape leader is advanced prior to record­
ing or playing back a tape.
TO SAVE (Record) DATA
(Computer to Tape)
1. Follow your com puter instru ctio n s for program m ing data.
2. Insert a blank cassette in the C om ­
puter Program Data Recorder. Re­
w ind to the beginning o f the tape. (If
you are adding an additional program
to the tape, push Program Locator
Reset Button so that " O CX)" appears
in the Program Locator w indow and,
then, fast forward to locate the end of your previously recorded
programs).
3. On your com puter, insert the appropriate in stru ctio n for Saving
Data.
4. Push RECORD button. (PLAY b utton w ill autom atically depress
at the same time.)
5. Insert appropriate com puter keyboard in stru ctio n to start the
recording.
6. W hen recording of inform ation is com plete, push the STOP/
EJECT button o f the recorder.
NOTE: The A u to m atic Level Control (ALC) w ill set the record level
fo r o ptim um recording regardless of DATA LEVEL control setting.
RECORD (REC) LED INDICATOR
W hen in RECORD mode, the LED on the Interface U nit and the REC
LED on the Data Recorder w ill blink to indicate the intensity of the
signal level being recorded.
NOTE: Normally, the DATA LEVEL control m ust be
set at 1/4 position or higher setting to activate LED.
RECORD MONITORING
W hen recording, you can m onitor (listen to) w hat is being recorded
through the PROGRAM
MONITOR SPEAKER. Set MONITOR
LEVEL sw itch to LO or HI posi-
tion fo r preferred listening level.
S w itch MONITOR LEVEL to OFF
to turn o ff PROGRAM MONITOR
SPEAKER.
TO LOAD COMPUTER
(Tape to Computer)
1. Refer to com puter handbook fo r instru ctio n s regarding data
retrieval.
2. Insert Cassette into recorder.
3. Position cassette tape so the start is slig h tly prior to the desired
program. If desired program is not at the beginning o f the tape,
use PROGRAM LOCATOR/DIGITAL COUNTER to locate its
previously noted position.
4. Set DATA LEVEL control to (
point. The DATA LEVEL control setting is critical for proper loading
of data into the computer, and may require some further ad­
justments, depending on your computer and/or the tape used.

5. Press PLAY b u tton and insert appropriate com puter keyboard
com m and fo r loading the com puter.
6. W ith the MONITOR sw itch in either the LO or HI position, you
w ill hear a steady tone when the program starts.
7. A fte r loading is com plete, push the STOP/EJECT button.
NOTE: Since tapes of diffe re n t quality w ill require a d ifferent DATA
LEVEL control setting, you may have to experim ent w ith the setting
to insure optim um performance.
