9-5 CHAIN AND CHAIN CASE
1.
Every 40 hours the drive
chain
tension should be
adjusted.
Remove the rubber
oil
filler tube located
near the
center
of the
chain case.
Reach
through
the
filler hole with your fingers and feel tt1e
chain
free
play. Without pushing hard in
either
direction
, tt1e
chain should have 0.4'' ( 10 mm) movemP.nt.
If
the
chain requires
an adjustment,
then
follovv this
pro-
cedure: loosen the two
t1old~own
bolts
(see
arrows);
grasp the
secondary shaft
housing
at
the
brake mount-
ing flange and lift up or push down, depending
on
the
adjustment needed;
check
the chain
for
proper
free
play and tighten
the
bolts
.
Make
a
final tension
check.

The cover located
at the
bottom
of
the
chain
case has
a
window in it to
check
for proper
oi
I level
.
The
oi I
level
should be 'topped up' (fill through the rubber oil filler
tube) to maintain the oil level near
the
top
of
the
window.
Never let the oil level drop below
the window
bottom. If the chain case oil
is
emptized
completely,
then refill with
24
fl.oz (710c.c.) of 10W/30 motor
oil.
