1. Open hinged battery compartment door by pressing down at
arrow, sliding it as indicated and lifting it up.
NOTE: To avoid damage to the battery door, do not attempt
to force door beyond its normal stopping point.
2. Insert 2 "AA"-size alkaline batteries (not included) into bat-
tery compartment. Be sure the (-t-) or cap end of each battery
is installed as shown on the battery diagram.
3. Close the battery door.
To save on batteries, use the optional Rechargeable Battery
Pack, No. 5-1753. (See page 7.)
NOTE: If the recording sounds distorted, or if the tape moves
very slowly or not at all, check the batteries. Try AC
power or a fresh set of batteries before seeking service
(See Rec/Batt Light, page 6).
Please note, if unit is in AVR mode for recording pur-
poses, tape operation will not start until a sound ac-
tivates the function.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to remove the batteries when storing the
unit for more than a few weeks at a time. Leaky batteries can
badly damage the recorder. Dispose of "dead" batteries in the
proper manner in accordance with state and local regulations.
