Selecting the Metering Mode

You can select one of four methods to measure the subject brightness. In
Basic Zone modes, evaluative metering is set automatically.
[ q ] Evaluative metering
z
General-purpose metering mode suited even for backlit subjects. The
camera adjusts the exposure automatically to suit the scene.
[ w ] Partial metering
z
Effective where there are much brighter lights around the subject due
to backlight, etc. Covers approx. 5.5% of the area at the center of the
screen. The partial metering area is indicated on the screen.
[ r ] Spot metering
z
Effective when metering a specific part of the subject or scene. Covers
approx. 2.7% of the area at the center of the screen. The spot metering
area is indicated on the screen.
[ e ] Center-weighted average metering
z
The metering across the screen is averaged, with the center of the screen
weighted more heavily.

Press the <Q> button (7).
With an image displayed, press the
z
< Q > button.

Select the metering mode.
Use the < W > < X > keys to select the
z
item shown.
Use the < Y > < Z > keys to select the
z
metering mode.
[ q ]: Evaluative metering
[ w ]: Partial metering
[ r ]: Spot metering
[ e ]: Center-weighted average
