Attaching the cable shield
You have to connect the following process signals of the
SIMATIC MICRO-DRIVE PDC using shielded cables:
● Encoder signals
● Hall encoder signals
● Process signals with cables ≥ 2 m
To do this, place the shields of the cables on the upper and
lower shield bracket with the help of the clamp terminal.
Proceed as follows:
1. Strip the cable.

2. Press the terminal clamps onto the protective braided
shield of the cable.
3. Slide the terminal clamps with cables onto the shield
bracket.

Connecting to functional ground
● The mounting plate must not be painted in the contact
area of the shield bracket and must be connected to the
cabinet ground with low-impedance.
● The conductor cross-section must be 2 mm
● Ensure that the cable for the functional grounding is as
short as possible.
● The functional grounding (FE) must not be made using a
green/yellow conductor.
Proceed as follows:
Connect all terminals with the symbol
connections of the shield brackets.
To connect the functional grounding of the PDC, use the
ground strap (available as accessory / spare part).
1. Screw the grounding strap to the ground connection
provided for this purpose on the bottom of the housing.
2. Fix the other end of the grounding strap to ground, e.g.
on the shield bracket or the chassis.
