Basic input/output system (BIOS) version requirements Messages and Error Codes The Dell PowerEdge 8450 Systems Service Manual contains a complete system message and error codes listing (including beep codes). The information in the Service Manual supersedes similar information found in the Installation and Trouble- shooting Guide.
80 KB of option ROM space may be used. EMP is not presently supported on the PowerEdge 8450 system. Multiple PERC2 cards are sup- ported in the PowerEdge 8450 system. However, the EMP remote console feature must be disabled when any PERC2 card is present.
Rack Installation Document A Dell PowerEdge 8450 Systems Rack Installation Guide is provided with each PowerEdge 8450 rack kit. Use this document to install the system into a rack cabinet. This guide supersedes instructions contained in the Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.
Multiple PERC2 Cards and Dell Diagnostics When two or more PERC2 cards are installed in the PowerEdge 8450 system, only up to two may be viewed or tested at any given time. Press <F10> to save these settings and exit the BIOS setup utility. Upon exiting, the system will reboot. Run the Dell Diagnostics to obtain information and perform testing on the PERC2 cards selected in step 4. Upon completion of testing, if additional PERC2 adapter cards are installed, those cards may be viewed and tested by rebooting and performing steps 1 through 7.

5 Diskette-Based Diagnostics You can run the Dell Diagnostics from a hard-disk drive utility partition or from dis- kettes. When using diskette-based diagnostics, observe the following precautions: • Ensure that the Dell Diagnostics diskette number 4 is not write protected.
