Replacing Other Components

This chapter provides information about how to add or replace components other than network
interface cards (NICs) in your appliance. The following topics are covered:

You should have a working knowledge of networking equipment before you attempt to service
an IP561 appliance. Limit service of the appliance to the procedures described in this chapter.
Note
To protect the IP561 appliance and the memory modules from electrostatic discharge
damage, make sure you are properly grounded before you touch these components. Use a
grounding wrist strap and follow the instructions provided with the wrist strap before you
handle the components or open the appliance.
Replacing the Compact Flash Memory Card
In flash-based IP561 appliances, the compact flash card stores the Nokia IPSO-VN, boot
manager and the local system logs. In disk-based IP561 appliances, the compact flash card stores
the boot manager and the Nokia IPSO-VN, local system logs are stored on the hard-disk drive.
The compact flash card is located on the motherboard in a slot in front of the two hard-disk drive
locations.
