4. Put a piece of Plastigauge (PG-1) on
each main journal parallel to the crank-
shaft.
NOTE:
Do not put the Plastigauge (PG-1) over the
oil hole in the main journals of the crankshaft.
5. Install the remaining half of the bearings
into the crankcase.
NOTE:
• Install the main bearings in their original
positions.
• Insert the projection of each bearing into
the slots in the crankcase.
6. Install the crankcase onto the cylinder
block.
7. Apply engine oil to the threads of the
crankcase bolts and tighten them to the
specified torques in two stages.
Crankcase bolt (M8):
1st: 15 N·m (1.5 kgf·m, 11.1 ft·lb)
2nd: 30 N·m (3.0 kgf·m, 22.1 ft·lb)
Crankcase bolt (M6):
1st: 6 N·m (0.6 kgf·m, 4.4 ft·lb)
2nd: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.9 ft·lb)
8. Remove the crankcase, and then mea-
sure the width of the compressed Plasti-
gauge (PG-1) on each main journal.
Replace the main bearing if out of speci-
fication.

1. When replacing the main bearing, select
the suitable bearing as follows.
2. Check the cylinder block mark a on the
cylinder block.
3. Select the suitable color b for the main
bearing from the table.
