EXTENDED FUNCTIONS

The extended functions refer to the altered and expended forms or various basic functions and
performances set and specified upon shipment, including the basic welding control sequence
described so far.

Connecting the Extension Cable (Extension Cable is Optional)

If an extension cable is connected between the plus(+)-side output terminal of the welding
power unit and the output cable of the wire feeder, the scope of welding work can be expanded.
(When this is done, it is inevitably necessary to extend the customer-prepared base metal cable,
except special cases such as welding a long substance.)
On the other hand, there may be bad effects on welding work such as a voltage drop due to an
electric resistance or the connected extension cable or how it is led about.
Undesirable effects are magnified as the extension cable becomes 1onger or its sectional area
becomes smaller. Therefore, erroneous selection of the extension cable used may degrade a
welding result. Upon using the extension cable, bear the following in mind.
Relations between the extended distance and cable's sectional area
Extended distance(one way, straight)
Sectional area of the cable used
It is preferred to make the extension cable as short as possible. Do not connect the one
which is unnecessarily 1ong.
Be sure to stretch out the extension cable for use. (If welding is done with the extension
cable coiled. arc could become unstable.)
When using the-extension cable, set the FTT control selector switch to "OFF" (refer to
pages 30 and 49)
