equalization
are

optimized by recording and playing back
1 kHz
(sensitivity),
7 kHz and
15 kHz
(equalizations)
signals.
In each of the
tests 32 values of gain and equalization
are used for precise adjustment.
This is done
three times for improved
accuracy.
Error check
The 1 kHz signal is recorded at the begin-
ning and end of testing to check whether
or not the ATRS test was performed cor-
rectly.
When there is no playback out-
put, an error indication is given.

f) Rewind, Stop
The counter inside the microprocessor
counts the number of revolutions of the
reel disc so that at the end of testing, the
tape can
be rewound
to the test start
position.
After ATRS
testing, the data is held in
test memory and can be transferred to the
memory
corresponding
to the type
of
tape with a tape select button.
It is possible to perform this 32-step test
within
10 seconds
because
the
newly
developed hyperbolic 1.4 mm Close Gap
Metal R/P combination head.
