You can play back the picture at various speeds: as a still; in
slow motion; at high speed (picture search); in forward
direction and in reverse direction.
Most of the variable speed playback modes are operated by
using the buttons on the Remote Commander, but you can
play a tape at a variety of forward and reverse speeds also
by using the DUAL MODE SHUTTLE ring on the VCR.
No sound can be heard during variable speed playback.
Still Mode (Pause Mode)
During playback, press II PAUSE.

To resume normal playback, press I PAUSE again or press
[> PLAY. When the still mode jasts for approximately 5
minutes, the VCR automatically resumes normal playback.
Slow Motion Playback
During playback or playback pause mode, press }» SLOW +
or — on the Remote Commander. You can also change the
slow motion speed with I» SLOW + or -.
Press I» SLOW + to increase the speed, or 8» SLOW - to
decrease the playback speed.
If you leave your VCR in slow motion playback for more than
5 minutes, normal playback resumes.

OPERATIONS
Variable Speed Playback —
Picture Search
During playback or playback pause mode, fast-forward or
rewinding, turn the DUAL MODE SHUTTLE ring clockwise to
bP (forward direction) or turn it counterclockwise to
<4 (reverse direction). A high-speed picture without sound
appears on the screen until you release the ring.
To resume the previous mode, release the ring at the desired
scene.
When using the Remote Commander
Press and hold FF >
or << REW instead of turning the
DUAL MODE SHUTTLE ring on the VCR.
To resume the previous mode, release the button at the
desired scene.
Locked Picture Search
During playback or playback pause mode, press
® SEARCH (forward direction) or & SEARCH (reverse
direction) on the Remote Commander. A high-speed picture
appears on the screen. You do not have to hold the button
down.
To resume normal playback, press [> PLAY.
Notes on variable speed playback
Streaks or distortion cannot be completely eliminated.
Some snow or distortion are unavoidable when playing back a
cassette in reverse or reverse slow motion playback.
When the tape transporting direction is changed during variable
speed playback, the playback picture and sound is distorted for a
moment.
Distortion may occur and the color may not be reproduced normally
during variable speed playback when you play tapes recorded in
LP mode, depending on thé TV connected to the VCR.

Picture Adjustment During Variable Speed
Playback
lf a picture played back in slow motion has streaks or
distortion, adjust the picture with TRACKING NORMAL/
SLOW and STILL ADJUST W/a on the Remote
Commander. You can adjust the picture more easily by
changing the speed closer to normal playback by pressing
b> SLOW +.
lf the picture appears to shake in still mode, adjust it with
TRACKING NORMAL/SLOW and STILL ADJUST W/A on
the Remote Commander until the picture stabilizes.
While pausing a tape, you may notice a band at the top or
bottom of the screen. If this happens, adjust the picture
with TRACKING NORMAL/SLOW and STILL ADJUST W/A
on the Remote Commander while playing back the tape in
slow motion.
