EPSON Photo!3. Chapter 3 explains how to prepare images, audio recordings, and video clips for uploading to your EPSON digital camera. It also includes information on printing your photos, and explains an alternate method to transfer images from your camera to your computer.

EPSON File Converter allows you to convert digital images and audio recordings to EPSON file format so that you can transfer them from your computer to the camera using EPSON Photo!3.
Installing and Setting up the Software Although you can connect and disconnect the USB cable at any time, EPSON recommends connecting it in the manner described above to secure the connection. Connecting to a PC You can connect the camera to a PC using a Windows serial cable. Follow the steps below. Make sure the camera and your computer are turned off. Plug the serial connector end of the cable into the serial port on your computer.

Caution: Be sure to position the cable correctly before inserting it into the interface connector. Otherwise, the cable and/or connector may be damaged. Set the camera’s dial switch to camera on (for PhotoPC 3000Z), or turn the camera’s dial switch to (for PhotoPC 850Z and 800).

Installing Software for Windows Users When you use the USB cable to connect your camera to your computer, first install the USB driver and then EPSON Photo!3. When you use the serial cable, you need only install EPSON Photo!3. Note: Be sure to follow the installation steps in this section when using a USB connection.
After installation is complete, click Finish. Go to the next section to install EPSON Photo!3. Installing EPSON Photo!3 Be sure to install EPSON Photo!3 before installing any of the other software, with the exception of the USB driver. Follow the steps below.
To install more software, proceed to the next section. Installing EPSON File Converter and other software In addition to EPSON Photo!3, your software CD contains other software, such as EPSON File Converter, that expands the capabilities of your camera. Follow the steps below to install the software of your choice.
Follow the instructions in this section to install the photo software on your Macintosh. Installing EPSON Photo!3 Be sure to install EPSON Photo!3 before installing any of the other software. Follow the steps below. Turn on the computer and insert the included CD in the CD-ROM drive.
Setting Up Camera Events for USB Users When connected to your computer via the USB cable, you can use the EPSON PhotoPC 3000Z to start certain computer applications simply by pressing a control button on the camera. You can start any application that supports “camera events”...

To change the application that is associated with a camera button, or to specify which application to launch when the camera is connected, click the list box and select the camera event that you want to change. If you do not want any application to start when a certain camera event occurs, select the Ignore the Camera Event check box.

Using the Camera Menu When you open EPSON Photo!3 while the camera is properly connected to your computer, the Camera menu opens and displays thumbnail images of the photos stored in the camera’s memory card.
Follow the steps below to save files to your computer using the Save To Folder button. Open EPSON Photo!3. See “Accessing EPSON Photo!3” on page 2-2 for instructions. From the Select Camera Directory list box, select EPSON to save photos, or Video Clip to save video clips.

The Export Photos button is only available when you open EPSON Photo!3 directly. Open EPSON Photo!3 as directed in “Opening EPSON Photo!3 directly” on page 2-2. On the Camera menu, click the thumbnail of the file you want to save, or click the Select All button to save all of the files stored in that folder.
Click Save to save your photos. Note: If you have selected multiple photos to export, EPSON Photo!3 will use the filename that you have specified as a prefix, and use that prefix along with a number to designate each photo.

For OLE2-compliant applications, position the cursor where you want to insert the photo, choose Object from the Insert menu, and double-click EPSON Photo!3 Object in the Object Type list. For TWAIN-compliant applications, select EPSON Photo!3 TWAIN (or Photo!3 TWAIN for Macintosh) as the TWAIN data source on the File menu, then acquire the image.

On the EPSON Photo!3 Camera menu, click the thumbnail of the image you want to use. Drag the photo from the Camera menu to your document. After a few seconds you will see the drop cursor. If your application does not support drag-and-drop, the drop cursor does not appear.

Converting images using a Macintosh To convert images to the EPSON Photo file format so that they can be uploaded to the memory card in your camera from your Macintosh, follow the steps below. Double-click the EPSON File Converter icon in the EPSON File Converter program group or folder.

For Macintosh users EPSON File Converter for Macintosh does not have a screen shot feature. However, you can make screen shots using your Macintosh system software, then use EPSON File Converter to upload the screen shots to your camera. While the instructions below are representative of many Macintosh computers, the procedure may differ, depending on your Macintosh.
Keep logs of your download sessions. Once the files are downloaded to your computer, you can use EPSON Photo!3 to view and manage them. For instructions on using EPSON Photo!3 to manage your photos, see “Using the Folder Menu” on page 2-14.

Printing images in Windows With EPSON Photo! Print2, you can print images that are saved on disk or on the memory card in your camera. Refer to the appropriate section below. Printing images saved on a computer To print JPEG or TIFF files that are saved on your computer or a network drive, follow the steps below.
Set your camera’s dial switch to camera on. Click Start, point to Programs and then to EPSON Photo!3, then click EPSON Photo! Print2 Launcher. EPSON Photo! TIFF A file format for storing color and grayscale images in files with little or no data compression. (TIFF files made with EPSON digital cameras receive no data compression.) Saving data in the TIFF format results in files that are larger and have finer image quality than image files with greater data compression, such as JPEG and other format files.
