Engineexhaust containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessand deadlygas. Keep hands, feet, hairand looseclothingawayfrom any movingpartson engine and yardvacuum. The bag/chuteswitch buttonmustbe fully depressedbythe tip of front tab on bag handleor blowerchute for engineto start. See Figure11.

Removeblowerchutefrom overthe rim of the dischargeopening. USING THE NOZZLE VACUUM Placenozzle/hosevac leverin the top positionon the nozzleto vacuumthroughnozzle.See Figure15. Thespringloaded pin mustbe in the first hole(closestto the end of the tube)of the hoseadapterto operatethe nozzlevac.

  • Page 17 Servicing the Air Cleaner Theair cleanerpreventsdamagingdirt, dust,etc.,from enteringthe carburetor and beingforced intothe engineand is importantto engine life and performance. T heair cleanerconsistsof a pleatedfilter. Never run the enginewithoutan air cleanercompletely assembled. Cleantheair cleanerevery 25 hoursof operationor once a season. Replacetheair cleanerannually. Neverstartor run the enginewith the air cleanerassemblyor theair filter removed.
  • Page 18 Cleaning Engine • Dailyor beforeevery use, cleangrass,chaffor accumulated debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,and controlsclean. Keeparea aroundand behindmufflerfreeof any combustible debris. • Keepingenginecleanallows air movement a roundengine. • Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe risk of overheat- ing and ignitionof accumulated debris. Do not usewaterto cleanengine parts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel system.Usea brushor drycloth.
  • Page 19 Removehexscrewon top of rear housingnear mountingbracket and the flangelock nutthat securesflail screen.See Figure21. Removeand cleanthe screenby scrapingor washingwith water. See Figure22. Reinstallthe screen. Beforeperforminganytype of maintenance on the machine,wait for all parts to stop movingand disconnectand groundthe sparkplug wire. Failureto follow this instructioncould resultin personalinjuryor propertydamage.
  • Page 20 SHARPENING OR REPLACING CHIPPER BLADE NOTE:Beforetippingthe unit, emptythefuel tank by runningengine untiltank isdry, and emptythe oil reservoiras describedinTo Drain Oil. Disconnectand groundthe spark plugwire. Removebagassemblyor blowerchute. Removethe three hexcap screwsholdingthe chipperchuteto the upperhousing.See Figure24. Removethe front hubcaps,flangelock nuts,front wheels,and wavewashersthat attachto the pivotarm assemblies.See Figure Removethe shoulderscrews,thrustwashers,and bell washers that go throughthe pivotarmsto the front supportbrace.The front supportbraceand lock nut can be removedat this time as well.

Usinga 3/16"allen wrench,removetheflat headcap screwsthat hold the chipperblade to the impeller.Thesescrewsare acces- siblethroughtheopeningcreatedwhenthechipperchutewas removedearlier.See Figure28.
