GENERAL
RECOMMENDATIONS
Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperformingany maintenance.
Thewarrantyon this edger/trencher d oes not coveritemsthat
havebeen subjectedto operatorabuseor negligence. T o receive
fullvalue fromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe equipmentas
instructedhere.
Changingof engine-governed speedwill voidenginewarranty.
All adjustmentsshouldbe checkedat least onceeach season.
Periodically checkall fastenersand makesuretheseare tight.
ENGINE
MAINTENANCE
Spark
Plug
Forgood performance, t he spark plug mustbe properlygappedand
freeof deposits.Replacethe sparkplug annually.
1.
Disconnectthe cap fromthe spark plug,and removeany dirt from
the sparkplug area.
2.
Use the propersize sparkplug wrenchto removethe spark plug.

NOTE: Replacewith a ChampionRJ19LMspark plug.

Checkthe gap (A) with a wiregauge(B). See Figure11.Spark
plug gap shouldbe 0.030in (0.76ram).If necessary,resetthe
gap.
4.
Installand tightenthe sparkplug to the recommended torque(180
Ib-in[20 Nm]).
5.
Attachthe sparkplug cap tothe sparkplug.
Air Cleaner
A dirty air cleanerwill restrictair flow to the carburetorand causepoor
engineperformance. I nspectthe filter eachtime the engineis oper-
ated.Youwill need to cleanthe filter morefrequentlyif youoperatethe
enginein very dustyareas.
Cleantheair cleanerevery 25 hoursof operationor once a season.
Replacethe air cleanerannually.
Neverstartor run the enginewith the air cleanerassemblyor the air
filter removed.
NOTE:Do notuse pressurized air or solventsto cleanthe filter.Pres-
surizedair candamagethe filterand solventswilldissolvethe filter.

Removethe screw(A) from the top of theair filter cover(B). See
Figure12.
2.
Topreventdebrisfrom fallingintothe carburetor,carefullyremove
theair filter cover.
3.
Removethe foam element(C) fromthe air filter base.

Washthe foam elementin liquid detergentand water.Squeeze
dry the foamelementin a cleancloth.
5.
Saturatethefoam elementwith cleanengine oil. Toremovethe
excessengineoil, squeezethe foam elementin a cleancloth.
6.
Installthe foam elementinto theair filter base.
7.
Installthe air filter coverontothe air filter baseand securewith
screw.
