Technical Glossary

All the BRAVIA Home Cinema Projectors incorporate a range of state of the art technology
to ensure they deliver the highest image quality and performance. If you would like to
know more details about the different technologies, please read the section below:
24p True Cinema
Movies shot with a fi lm camera have 24 frames per second.
With the 24p True Cinema incorporated in these projectors, all
24 progressive images are displayed in the same sequences as
the original fi lm source. In combination with next generation video devices
like the Blu-ray Disc, the same fi lm-like motion normally seen only in a
cinema is now available in the comfort of your living room.
Advanced Iris 2
The latest evolution of Sony's own Advanced Iris function uses
algorithms designed to analyse the histogram of each picture along
with nonlinear amplifi cation to dynamically adjust the aperture for its
optimum opening. The result is a stunningly high contrast ratio
(VPL-VW80 60,000:1). Images in bright scenes are crisp and clear and
black levels in dark scenes are deep and detailed. A manual
adjustment option is also available to fi x the aperture opening for
specifi c image conditions.
All Range Crisp Focus Lens (ARC-F)
A specially developed crisp focus lens to take full advantage of the full
1920 x 1080 HD resolution that the SXRD panel device offers. It delivers
superior resolution and focus.
Anamorphic Zoom Mode
The anamorphic zoom mode allows the projectors to compress the image
vertically so that the attached anamorphic lens can widen it horizontally
– allowing you to view fi lms in the impressive 2,35:1 aspect ratio seen in
actual cinemas.

Image Director 3
Gamma Adjustment Application Software. The VPL-VW80 and VPL-VW200
work with Image Director 3 via the RS232C terminal. Image Director 3
comes on a CD-ROM. This application software is suitable for fi ne gamma
adjustments. With Image Director 3 on your PC, it is possible to adjust the
gamma curve more easily and accurately thanks to the new zooming
function, and you can choose a mode from Fine or Coarse to suit
your taste.
Lens Shift
The projected image position (both horizontal and vertical) can be easily
adjusted with the Lens Shift function, which expands the projector's
placement and installation options without distorting the image quality.
The VPL-HW10 lens can be manually adjusted: 65% vertically and 25%
horizontally. The VPL-VW80 can be electronically adjusted using its
motorised lens: 65% vertically and 25% horizontally. The VPL-VW200 can be
adjusted electronically or manually: 65% vertically and 6.7% horizontally.
The VPL-VW80 has a built-in motorised lens protector cover in front of the
lens, protecting it from dust. It automatically opens when the projector is
turned on, and closes again when switched off.
