D-Link DNS-346 USER'S MANUAL
Snapshot is a point in time copy of the data in the volume. It is basically an image ("snapshot") of the
data on a volume at a specific moment in time (thus the name snapshot). It is essentially a photograph
of the state of your data at that moment in time. The snapshot acts as a guide for restoring the storage
device in the event that it fails. A snapshot creates a point-in-time copy of the data. Normally, the
snapshot is done instantaneously and made available for use by other applications. The original copy
of the data continues to be available to the applications without interruption, while the snapshot copy
is used to perform other functions on the data.
