Removing the paper tray will result
in the front edge of the paper
stack catching on the PE Actuator.
2. If the paper loaded in the tray exceeds the maximum level, or if the PE Actuator is out of
position as described above, the Paper Plate in the tray is prevented from moving up when it is
driven by the paper feed system. As a result, some gears in the paper feed system become
immobile while the other gears continue to rotate against them. This produces the clicking
noise and eventually results in gear damage.
Recommendation:
Perform the following steps to determine which of the above issues apply and repair accordingly:
1. Switch off power to the machine.
2. Remove the paper tray. If the tray is stuck, perform steps a-e below:
a. Push the tray back into the machine.
b. Turn the machine around and remove the Duplex (DX) Tray.
