Battery Construction and
Memory effect
If nickel hydrogen batteries are repeatedly
charged before the battery power has com-
pletely drained, a phenomenon occurs in which
both the capacity which can discharged from
the battery and the voltage characteristics of
the battery decrease. Also, this phenomenon
accelerates if charging is done at a high tem-
perature, but can be eliminated by using re-
fresh charging.
NOTE:
When the memory effect appears, the capac-
ity indicator becomes inaccurate. Advise the
customer that whenever the charging unit
indicates that refresh charging is necessary it
should be carried out as soon as possible.
It is recommended that the battery be used as
long as possible before charging it.
Battery service life
The service life of the nickel hydrogen battery
varies depending on the environment in which
it is used, but normally the service life is ap-
proximately one year or around 300 cycles.
There are ways of handling the battery that en-
able the service life to be extended.
