Two or Multiple Disk Drive Failure

RAID
Level
Symptom
RAID 1
Two disk drive failures in
RAID 1 make it QTOF
RAID 5
Failure of two or more disk
drives in a RAID 5 Vdisk or
disk group makes the Vdisk
or disk group QTOF.
RAID 10
Failure of both the disk
drives in the same
sub-Vdisk or subgroup
makes the Vdisk or disk
group QTOF.
RAID 6
Failure of two disk drives in
a RAID 6 Vdisk or disk
group makes the Vdisk or
disk group CRIT.
Failure of multiple disk
drives (greater than two) in
a RAID 6 Vdisk or disk
group makes the Vdisk or
disk group QTOF.
RAID 10,
Failure of two or more
RAID 50
drives, all in different
sub-Vdisks or subgroups.

Vdisk or disk group Expansion Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question
During a Vdisk or disk group expansion, multiple disk
drives go missing or are failed while the Vdisk or disk
Description/Notes
RAID 1 supports a maximum of two
disk drives.

NA
If multiple spares are available for
the Vdisk or disk group, two disk
drive reconstruction begins.
NA
In a RAID sub-Vdisk or subgroup, if
one drive fails, the sub-Vdisk or
subgroup status, and therefore the
Vdisk or disk group status, is CRIT.
If two or more sub-Vdisks or
subgroups have only one drive
failed, the status of the Vdisk or disk
group is still CRIT. Available spares
will be used for reconstruction.

Answer
Yes, expansion resumes once the Vdisk or disk group is
automatically de-quarantined.
Action Required
If the Vdisk go QTOF, the Vdisk gets
de-quarantined automatically after
the drives are recognized. If the
Vdisk does not get de-quarantined
automatically, run a manual
de-quarantine to bring the Vdisk to
OFFL state, see
