5. Functions <Power Saving Function (1)>
(1) Power Saving Function: MAID (Massive Array of Inactive Disks) Technology
Power Saving Function (MAID technology) reduces power consumption by turning off the motor power
of unused physical disk in backup volumes. The operation of disks, spare disks, and unassigned disks
in a pool can be controlled according to the status of volume usage which is specified by the logical
disks. By controlling the start/stop operation of the unused disks, the power function provides the
fundamental ability to support power saving operations in business.

StoragePowerConserver, which is bundled in M-Series Storage, can stop unused disks and hot spare
disks. Power saving function requires Storage Manager and Storage Control Command when
performing the following operations.

- Start/Stop pool operation
- Set power saving mode for each pool
