Installation

P
DANGER
Always switch off the power supply to PLC and other external power sup-
plies before performing any installation and wiring work.
E
WARNING
● Only operate the equipment under the conditions described in the
MELSEC iQ-R Hardware Manual. Do not expose the equipment to dust,
oil mist, corrosive or flammable gases, strong vibrations or impacts,
high temperatures, condensation or damp.
● When installing the equipment take care that no shavings, filings or
wire fragments that could cause short circuits fall into the module. Use
the supplied cover to seal the ventilation slits during installation.
Remember to remove the cover after installing the unit, otherwise the
controller can overheat during operation.
● Fix the cables connected to a module so that the terminals or the con-
nector is not directly stressed.
Mounting a module to a base unit
E
WARNING
● Do not open or modify a module. Doing so can cause a failure, mal-
function, injury or fire.
● Always insert the module fixing latch of the module into the module
fixing hole of the base unit. Forcing the hook into the hole will damage
the module connector and module.
● Do not touch the conductive or electronic parts of a module directly.
Doing so can cause a unit malfunction or failure.
After switching off the power
supply, insert the module fixing
latch into the module fixing hole
of the base unit.
Push the module in the direction of
arrow to load it into the base unit.
Secure the module with an additional screw (M3 x 12) to the base unit if
large vibration is expected. This screw is not supplied with the module.
Wiring
P
DANGER
● Always switch off the power supply to PLC and other external power
supplies before performing any installation and wiring work.
● Before turning on the power supply after installation or wiring close
the terminal cover of the module.
● Caused by an defective output module, outputs can be left on or off.
Build an external monitoring circuit for outputs which can cause seri-
ous trouble.
Use only wires with a size of 0.3 mm² to 0.75 mm². Twist the end of strand wires
and use ferrules. It is recommended to cover the wire connections with insula-
tion tubes.
Connection cables
For connection to a 40-pin connector (RX41C4, RX42C4, RY41NT2P, RY42NT2P
and RH42C4NT2P) the prefabricated connection cables Q40CBL-3M and
Q40CBL-5M can be used.
Please observe the following notes to reduce the effects of power supplies or
other sources for electrical noise:
● Do not bundle AC supply lines together with DC supply lines.
● Do not lay signal cables close to the main circuit, high-voltage power lines, or
load lines. Otherwise effects of noise or surge induction are likely to take place.
Keep a safe distance of more than 100 mm from the above when wiring.
● The maximum cable length for in- and output connection is 100 m. To
safely prevent noise you should limit the cable length to 20 m. Take the
voltage drop on the line into consideration.
