The Type-IAV5 1 A is an overvo ltage relay with sing le-ci rcu it clos i n g contacts that cl ose w h e n
the volta g e i ncreases to p i ck u p va l ue, a s set on t h e ta p block. T h e ti me delay i n closi n g t h e
contacts is d etermi ned b y t h e setti n g of the ti me d i a l at t h e to p of t h e s h a ft.

The IAV52A re lay i s si m i l a r i n every respect to the IAV5 1 A re lay, exce pt t h a t i t h a s

The IAV53A relay is a n u nd e r- and overvoltage re lay with d o u ble-th row contacts. The left­
h a n d contacts close as the voltage i n creases to some predete rm i n ed va l u e . The rig ht- h a n d
contacts cl ose w h e n the voltage d ecreases to some lowe r va l u e .

The Type IAV5 3 B relay d i ffers fro m the Type IAV53A relay i n that it does n ot have sea l-i n
elements. Time/voltage cha racteristics a re shown i n F i g u re 1 3 .
The Type IAV53C a n d IAV53M relays a re si m i lar to the Type IAV53A relay exce pt that t h e re
a re n o ta ps o n the co i l . The relay is adj usted to cl ose its right contacts i n 1 0 seco nds w h e n
t h e voltage i s red uced from 5 8 % rated voltage to zero (0) voltage; with t h i s ca l i brat i o n t h e
relay closes its left contacts i n a p p roxi mately 1 0 seconds wh en t h e volta g e is i ncreased fro m
58% of rated voltage to rated voltage. These relays a re used con nected l i n e-to-g rou nd so
that u nd e r normal cond itions the re lay receives 58% of rated ph ase-to-ph ase volta g e , a n d
both relay contacts a re open. If the phase to wh i ch the relay is con n ected i s g ro u n d ed , the
re lay voltage goes to zero (0) and the right-hand contacts close in 1 0 seco nds. I f e i t h e r of
