    Congratulations! You have purchased one of the finest projection TVs on the market. The goal of this manual is to guide you through setting up and operating your Toshiba TV as quickly as possible. This manual applies to models 43HX71 and 53HX71. Before you start reading, check your model number by looking at the rear of the Instructions in this manual are based on using the remote control.

    Connecting your TV If you have not connected electronic equipment before, or you have been frustrated in the past, you may wish to read this section. (Cables are not supplied.) • A coaxial cable is the standard cable that comes in from your antenna or cable converter box.

    Connecting a cable converter box This connection allows you to watch basic and premium cable channels. To use the TV’s features, select ANT-1. To view premium channels, select ANT-2, tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 (whichever channel is vacant in your area), and use the converter box to change channels.

    Viewing the wide-screen picture formats You can view programs that have the conventional TV picture format (4:3 aspect ratio) and the wide-screen format (16:9 aspect ratio). One is the Favorite that scans the channels programmed in the TV memory by the FAVORITE CH function (9-picture multi-search) and the other is the Strobe, which is convenient when watching a quickly moving picture such as a sports program.

    Using the closed caption feature The closed caption feature has two options: • Captions—An on-screen display of the dialogue, narration, and sound effects of TV programs and videos that are closed captioned (usually marked as “CC” in TV listings). • Text—An on-screen display of information not related to the current program, such as weather or stock data (when provided by individual stations).

    Using the WOW™ surround sound feature The WOW™ surround sound feature expands the audio listening field wider and deeper to create exceptional sound quality from the TV’s speakers.
