Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001
Completion Check
Static Check
1. Check the shift operation. Make sure the shift
action is smooth for Forward, Neutral and
Reverse.
2. Check the throttle operation for smoothness
from fully closed to fully open.
N O T E :
Shift forward and then check the throttle
operation.
3. Check steering friction to make sure proper
friction is obtained. Move the tiller handle tilt
up/down and check that the cables and wires
are not stretched.
4. Check the power trim/tilt switch.
a. Connect the battery.
b. Push and hold the switch to "UP", the
motor will tilt up.
c. Push and hold the switch to "DN", the
motor will tilt down.
d. Release the switch, the motor will stop at
its current position.

Dynamic Check
CAUTION:
T he engine is going to be started for checking.
M ake sure the engine has an adequate supply
of cooling water. B efore checking, make sure
the following conditions are met:
• L ock plate is installed to the engine stop
switch.
• S hift position is in neutral.
• I nsert the key into the main switch, with
the key in the "O F F
• T hrottle control is fully closed.
5. Check the start in gear protection.
a. Shift in forward/reverse
b. Turn the key to "START." The starting
motor should not turn over.
c. Shift into neutral.
d. Turn the key to "START." The starting
motor will then turn over.
