    Inserting Originals for Copying (and Scanning) You can copy and scan from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) or from the scanner glass. Using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) The ADF can hold up to 30 pages, feeding each one individually through the machine.

    Setting the Special Media Lever You can use the special media lever to select the Regular position ( ) or Special position. ( ) To feed special types of originals (such as coated paper or glossy paper), move the special media lever to the Special position ( ). It will allow the original to feed through the ADF without slipping or jamming.

    Choosing a Location Place your DCP on a flat stable surface, such as a desk. Select a place that is free of vibration and shocks. Place the machine near a standard, grounded power outlet. Choose a location where the temperature remains between 50°F and 95°F (10°–35°C).

    Assembly Installing the Drum Unit Assembly (with Toner Cartridge) Unpack the drum unit assembly, including the toner cartridge, and gently rock it from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. To prevent damage to the drum, do NOT expose it to light for longer than a few minutes.

    Setting Up the DCP Follow the instructions below to connect the power cord. Power Cord Connect the power cord. Turn on the power switch. WARNING This machine must be grounded using a three-prong plug. Lightning and power surges can damage this product! We recommend that you use a quality surge protection device on the AC power line, or unplug the power cord during a lightning storm.

    On-Screen Programming User-Friendly Programming We have designed your DCP with on-screen programming using navigation keys. User-friendly programming helps you take full advantage of all the menu selections your DCP has to offer. Since your programming is done on the LCD, we created step-by-step on-screen prompts to help you program your machine.

    Custom Settings Custom Settings Toner Save You can conserve toner using this feature. When you set Toner Save to ON, print appears somewhat lighter. The default setting is OFF. Press Toner Save.     Sleep Mode Setting the Sleep Mode reduces power consumption while the machine is idle. You can choose how long the machine is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before it drops into sleep mode. The timer automatically resets itself after the machine receives a PC data, or makes a copy.

    Temporary Copy Settings The Copy keys on the control panel enable you to combine multiple settings quickly and easily. The keys Sort, Copy Mode, Paper Size, Contrast and Options allow you to adjust copy settings temporarily. And the DCP returns to its default settings 45 seconds after it finishes copying.

The machine prints all the even-numbered pages on one side of the paper first. Then, the Windows instructs you (with a pop-up message) to reinsert the paper.

When you use transparencies, remove each sheet immediately after printing, to prevent a paper jam or curled sheets.     Cleaning the Drum Unit We recommend you place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering toner. Carefully turn the drum unit upside down. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab from right to left several times.

    Toner Empty Indicator When the toner cartridge is running low, the LCD shows the Toner Empty LED on the control panel flashes on and off to indicate the toner is low. Toner Empty Icon The Toner Empty LED light stays on and the LCD shows indicate that the toner is empty.

You can use only a genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN-250 series), which is specially formulated to ensure top print quality. Using another brand of toner cartridge may void your DCP’s warranty.
