Drive shield kit

2. Pull the traction idler pulley toward the side of the
frame, and slide the drive shield into place, with the
mounting tabs on the outside of the frame and the
position tabs on the drive shield against the front
edge of the frame (Figure 2).
1. Traction idler pulley
Note: Tilt the drive shield as you install it to move
it around the belts and the engine.
3. Using the drive shield as a template, drill a 5/32-inch
hole on each side of the frame centered on the
mounting tab hole locations.
4. Attach the drive shield to the snowthrower with the
bolts provided in the kit.
Note: Ensure that there is a small gap between
the drive shield and the traction idler pulley arm
(Figure 3). If there is no gap, gently bend the drive
shield away from the idler arm until the idler arm
can move freely.

Note: Insert a wedge (such as a screwdriver)
between the top of the drive shield and the bottom
of the engine on both sides of the engine to prevent
the drive shield from bowing upward before the
sealant cures (Figure 4).

5. Allow at least 2 hours for the sealant to cure before
using the snowthrower.
6. Install the belt covers using the bolts that you
removed in step 1 of "Removing the Belt Covers and
Cleaning the Snowthrower Frame."
