Configuring GPS Software to Connect to HP iPAQ's GPS
Receiver
All GPS software applications need to know which communications port to use to
access GPS data. Your HP iPAQ already has the GPS port specified for the GPS
software applications that came with the device. However, if you install additional
GPS applications onto your HP iPAQ GPS-enabled device, you may need to
specify the GPS port in your GPS application's configuration settings.
Your GPS-enabled HP iPAQ uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, so the operating
system automatically manages access to the HP iPAQ GPS receiver to allow
multiple programs to simultaneously access GPS data.
If your GPS application needs direct access to the GPS receiver, ensure no other
GPS applications are running, then set your GPS software to COM7 at a baud
rate of 57600. If you need help, refer to the documentation that came with your
GPS software application.
TomTom GPS Navigation Software
With the TomTom GPS navigation software on your HP iPAQ, GPS automatically
turns on and begins searching for satellites when you launch the GPS navigation
software. When you close the GPS navigation software, GPS turns off.
To open the TomTom GPS navigation software, tap Start > Programs > GPS
Navigation.
Downloading TomTom Maps
To download your one free city map:
1. Tap Start > Programs > GPS Navigation.
2. Select your preferences such as language, clock display, voice, etc. Once
you have completed selecting your preferences, your HP iPAQ notifies you
"No maps found ..."
3. Tap Next to continue. Internet Explorer automatically launches to start the
process of downloading a map.
NOTE Make sure you have a connection to the Internet before you try to
download a map. If you cannot connect to the Internet, refer to the
instructions for Configuring GPS on Your HP iPAQ.
