The chamber door seals the vacuum chamber. It is
designed to maintain both vacuum and correct
temperature inside the chamber throughout the
build. The thickness of the door, the machine shell
plate and the lead glass in the viewport protects
operators from X-radiation.
The viewport (1) allows direct inspection of the
build process. The viewport is protected from heat
and metallisation by a shield (3) which is manually
operated with a handle (2) on the outside of the
door.
