Cause/solution
L The phone number you dialed might have been edited
incorrectly (for example, the long distance "1" or the
area code is missing). Edit the phone number with
another pattern (page 39).
L In order to use Caller ID, Call Waiting, or Call Waiting
Caller ID (CWID), you must first contact your telephone
service provider and subscribe to the desired service.
After subscribing, you may need to contact your
telephone service provider again to activate this
specific service, even if you already subscribed to both
Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services
(CWID).
L Someone is viewing the caller list from another
handset.
Cause/solution
L A touch tone phone is required for remote operation.
L Enter the remote code correctly (page 58).
L The answering system is off. Turn it on (page 59).
L The answering system is off. Turn it on (page 54, 59).
L The recording time is set to "Greeting only". Select
a different setting (page 60).
L The message memory is full. Erase unnecessary
messages (page 55).
L If you subscribe to the Voice Mail service, messages
are recorded by the telephone service provider not your
telephone (page 60).
L Someone is operating the answering system.
L If someone is talking on a conference call, you cannot
operate the answering system. Try again later.
L New messages have been recorded. Listen to the new
messages (page 55, 56).
