Transmitter mode - voltage source or current source

The transmitter can work either as voltage or current source. The voltage source has an internal
resistance of 600 Ω. The current source has an infinitely high internal resistance.

Line termination

The termination impedance of 600 Ω is automatically activated if the position of the modem
within the communication system requires this. This is basically only the case at the ends of a
transmission line. Dependent on the configuration as current or voltage source as well as two-wire
or 4-wire configuration by defining the position of the modem according to Tab. 17 the settings High-
Z or 600 Ω are realized for NF1 and NF2.

Main operating modes
End-to-end mode
In this mode two modems are connected by one line. The transmitters of both modems work
as voltage sources. In the two-wire mode the line is terminated by the internal resistance of the
transmitter, see Fig. 6, in the four-wire mode the receiver will be terminated as well, see Fig. 8.
