3.5 Operating and display elements
Removing and fitting the front panel or display
You can remove and fit the front panel or the display during operation.
Personal injury and damage to property may occur
Personal injury or material damage can occur in zone 2 hazardous areas if you remove or fit
the display while the S7‑1500 automation system is running.
Before you remove or insert the display in zone 2 hazardous areas, always make sure that
the power supply to the S7‑1500 automation system is switched off.
Locking the front panel
You can lock the front panel to protect the SIMATIC memory card and the operating mode
buttons of the CPU against unauthorized access.
You can attach a security seal or a padlock with a diameter of 3 mm to the front panel.

In addition to the mechanical lock, you can also block access to a password-protected CPU on
the display (local lock) and assign a password for the display. You can find additional
