1 Introduction Introduction Overview Inductive sensors are suitable for detecting metallic objects without contact. They build up a magnetic field, which is influenced by the metal objects that are electrically conductive. This field change is detected by the sensor and it switches the output.
  • Page 5 1 Introduction Figure 1-2 Overview of a possible area of application The connection and evaluation of such a sensor as well as the parameterization of the hardware required for it are discussed in the following application example. The "InductiveClocking" function block is used for the evaluation. This outputs the clocked signal and analyzes the incoming sensor signal to determine whether the sensor is currently attenuated or unattenuated.

1 Introduction 1.2.1 Standard user program Figure 1-4: Overview of the standard user program The standard user program runs in OB1. Since this application example deals with the connection of an inductive, clocking safety switch, no functionality is required in the standard user program and the OB1 therefore does not call instructions.

1 Introduction Examples of events leading to passivation: • Wire break at the F-DQ • No voltage supply at the F-DI If an error occurs in the hardware, it may take a few seconds for the module to detect that the error has been eliminated (for example, correction of a wire break). Note Only then does the actuation of the acknowledgment button have an effect.

2 Engineering Configuration The supplied project does not require any additional configuration. If you would like to reproduce the application example with other components, the most important project settings and configurations of the hardware are shown in this section. The settings shown below contribute to compliance with SIL 3 / PL d. CAUTION Changes to the settings can lead to a loss of the safety function.

2 Engineering 2.3.4 Assigning PROFIsafe addresses PROFIsafe addresses still have to be assigned to the modules to implement safe communication between the F-CPU and the fail-safe modules. Note Since the PROFIsafe address is stored in the electronic coding element, this step is only required if no PROFIsafe address or a different one has been assigned to the coding element beforehand.

3 Useful information Useful information Basics 3.1.1 Basic terminology Cross-circuit Cross-circuit detection is a diagnostic function of an evaluation unit that detects short-circuits or cross-circuits between two input channels (sensor circuits). A cross-circuit can be caused, for example, by a sheathed cable being pinched. In devices without cross-circuit detection, this can mean that a two-channel emergency stop circuit does not trip even though only one NC contact is faulty (secondary error).

3 Useful information freedom from systematic faults. It is expressed in the standards using different terms: • In IEC 62061: "Safety Integrity Level" (SIL) • In ISO 13849-1: "Performance Level" (PL) You can find more information on functional safety under "\10\".
