Storing the Machine

For storage over 30 days, prepare the machine as
follows:
1.
Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the blade, and engage the parking brake.
2.
Turn the ignition key to the O
the key, and disconnect the spark plug wire from
the spark plug.
3.
Remove debris, dirt, and grime from the external
parts of the entire machine, especially the
engine.
Important:
You can wash the machine with
mild detergent and water.
4.
Add a petroleum-based stabilizer/conditioner to
fuel in the tank. Follow the mixing instructions
from the stabilizer manufacturer. (7.8 ml per L or
1 fl oz per US gallon).
Note:
Fuel stabilizer/conditioner is most
effective when mixed with fresh fuel and used
at all times.
Important:
Do not use an alcohol-based
stabilizer (ethanol or methanol). Do not store
stabilizer/conditioned fuel over 90 days.
5.
Run the engine to distribute conditioned fuel
through the fuel system (5 minutes).
6.
Shut off the engine, allow it to cool, and drain
the fuel tank using a pump type siphon. Dispose
of fuel properly; recycle as per local codes.
7.
Start the engine and run it until it shuts off.
8.
Start and run the engine until it does not start
again.
9.
Service the air cleaner; refer to
Cleaner (page
16).
10.
Change the engine crankcase oil; refer to
Changing the Engine Oil and Oil Filter (page

Remove and charge the battery; refer to
Charging the Battery (page

Remove the spark plug and check the condition;
refer to
Servicing the Spark Plug (page
13.
With the spark plug removed from the engine,
pour 2 tablespoons of engine oil into the spark
plug hole. Now use the starter to crank the
engine and distribute the oil inside the cylinder.
Install the spark plug(s). Do not install the wire
on the spark plug(s).
14.
Check and tighten all bolts, nuts, and screws.
Repair or replace any part that is damaged.

15.
Paint all scratched or bare metal surfaces. Paint
is available from your Authorized Service Dealer.
16.
Store the machine in a clean, dry garage or
storage area.

Cover the machine to protect it and keep it clean.
