If you think of your disc as being like a filing
cabinet, formating is equivalent to getting an

disc for any damagedareas in which data
cannot be stared. Second, you place hanging
folders and dividers in yourfile cabinet
Likewise, the disc drive sets up storage areas
on thedisc. Finally, you label your filing
cabinetso that you know what is in each
drawer. Similarly, the disc drive sets up a
directory on your disc
