The brakefluid reservoiris locatedunderthe
hood.(See pages 8-7-8-8 for hood opening
andclosingprocedures.)
Observetheseprecautions:
• When checkingthe fluid level,make sure
the top ofthe brakefluidreservoiris level.
• Use only the recommended quality brake
fluid.Otherwise, t he rubbersealsmay de-
teriorate, c ausingleakage andpoorbraking
performance.
Recommended brakefluid:DOT4

• Refill w iththesametypeof brakefluid.Mix-
ing fluidsmay resultin a harmfulchemical
reactionand lead to poor braking perfor-
mance.
• Be carefulthat water does not enter the
brake fluid reservoirwhen refilling.Water
will significantlylower the boiling point of
the fluidand mayresultin vaporlock.
• Brakefluid maydeterioratepaintedsurfac-
es or plasticparts.Alwayscleanup spilled
fluidimmediately.
• Have a Yamahadealer inspectthe brake
systemif the brakefluidlevelgoesdown.
Brake fluid
replacement
Complete
fluid replacement
should
be done
only
by trained
Yamaha
service
personnel.
Have a Yamaha
dealer replace the following
components
during
periodic
maintenance
or
when they are damaged
or leaking.
Replace the oil seals every two years.
Replace the brake hoses every four years.
