FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
Fuelmustmeet these requirements:
Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.
A minimumof 87 octane/87AKI (91 RON). Highaltitude use,see
below.
Gasolinewith up to 10%ethanol(gasohol)or up to 15%MTBE
(methyltertiarybutyl ether)is acceptable.

gasolineor modifythe engineto runon alternatefuels.This will
damagetheengine components and voidthe enginewarranty.
Toprotectthe fuel systemfrom gumformation,mix a fuel stabilizer
intothe fuel. See Storage.All fuel is notthe same.If startingor
performanceproblemsoccur,changefuel providersor changebrands.
This engineis certifiedto operateon gasoline.Theemissionscontrol
systemfor this engineis EM(EngineModifications).
High Altitude
At altitudesover5,000feet (1524meters),a minimum85 octane/85
AKI (89 RON) gasolineis acceptable. T o remainemissionscompliant,
high altitudeadjustmentisrequired.Operationwithoutthis adjustment
willcause decreasedperformance, i ncreasedfuel consumption, a nd
increased emissions.Seea Briggs& StrattonAuthorizedDealerfor
high altitudeadjustmentinformation.
Operationof theengineat altitudesbelow2,500feet (762meters)with
the highaltitude kit is not recommended.
HOW TO ADD FUEL
Gasolineand its vapors are extremelyflammableand explosive.
Fireor explosioncan causesevereburnsor death.
When
Adding
Fuel
Turnengineoff and letengine coolat least 2 minutesbefore
removing the fuel cap.
Fillfuel tank outdoorsor inwell-ventilated area.
Donot overfillfuel tank.Filltank to approximately 1.5inches (38
ram)belowtop of neck to allowforfuel expansion.
Keepgasolineawayfrom sparks,openflames,pilot lights,heat,
and other ignition sources.
Checkfuel lines,tank,cap, and fittings frequentlyfor cracksor
leaks.Replaceif necessary.
If fuel spills,wait untilit evaporatesbeforestartingengine.

Cleanthe fuelcap area of dirt and debris. Removethe fuelcap
(A, Figure5).
2.
Fillthe fueltank (B) with gasoline.Toallow forexpansionof the
gasoline,do not fill abovethe bottomof the fueltank neck (C).
3.
Reinstall t he fuel cap.
