2-4 Other Settings with V.Networks Setup Tool [5. Multicast]
Selecting [Multicast Mode] allows VN-C655 to send the same image data to multiple recipi-
ents on the network at one time without lowering the frame rate.
• In a narrowband environment, for example, of dial-up connection, select [Unicast Mode].

Start up [V.Networks Setup Tool] and select [Multicast]. The [Multicast Setting] screen is
displayed.
Multicast
● A multicast address can be set from 225.0.0.0 through 239.255.255.255. Do not set the
same multicast address for different devices on the same system.
● To view VN-C655 images in the multicast mode through a router, an operating environment
or a router setting is required as follows:
1 The router supports IGMP Ver. 2 and is synchronized with the starting and stopping of
multicast transmission. And the route setting can be dynamically changed.
2 If the router does not support IGMP Ver. 2, a static route for multicast must be set to the
router.

For selecting the mode for acquiring images.
Normal:
Client will send requests for each image to
VN-C655.
Set to Normal when using a narrow
bandwidth network.
High Speed:
Images will be automatically sent from VN-
C655 at the specified frame rate. Images
with a resolution of 640 x 480 can be sent
at a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.
When sending out images to multiple clients
simultaneously, however, transmission at a
rate of 30 fps for 640 x 480 images is not
possible.

● Images are divided into IP fragments.
● Data is transmitted at the frame rate set
at VN-C655. When setting the frame rate
to High Speed, do so upon ensuring that
this does not add excessive load to the

● Do not set to High Speed for narrow
bandwidth networks.
● Maximum data transmission capacity is
8 Mb/s. A maximum rate of 30 fps may
not be possible for 640 x 480 images
depending on the image size.
