The
.MDERR
function displays on the sgstem console one
of the standard system error messages contained in
the
MDOS
error
message
file.
The
error message to be displayed is

This index number will also be used to modify the
system error status word (see section 28.4).
Certain error messages contain
references
to
external
parameters
that
must
be
supplied
by
the calling program
(e. g.,
a file
name
specification
or
an
address).
These
parameters are
sho~n
in the list of error messages below as a
backslash character

followed by
a
numeric
digit
which
indentifies
the
format
of the parameter.
When an external
parameter
reference
is
encountered
in
the
message,
the
corresponding
parameter
from
the
calling
program will be
inserted into the message
before
it
is
displaqed
on
the
system
console.
