NOTICE
Do not tilt the outboard motor up so that
the cooling water inlet on the lower unit is
above the surface of the water when set-
ting up for and cruising in shallow water.
Otherwise severe damage from overheat-
ing can result.

the release position.

Cruising in other conditions

Cruising in salt water
After operating in salt water, flush the cooling
water passages with fresh water to prevent
them from becoming clogged. Also rinse the
outside of the outboard motor with fresh wa-
ter and, if possible, rinse the power head un-
der the cowling.
Cruising in muddy, turbid, or acidic water
Yamaha strongly recommends that you use
To set the outboard motor in a partially
tilted position, slightly tilt the outboard
motor up until the plate turns completely.
To return the outboard motor to the nor-
mal running position, place the gear shift
lever in neutral, then slightly tilt the out-
board motor up. Set the tilt lock lever
and shallow water lever to the lock posi-
tion and slowly tilt the outboard motor
down.
