Battery terminals or metal tools could short
against metal components, causing sparks.
Sparks can cause the battery gasses to explode,
resulting in personal injury.
• When removing or installing the battery, do
not allow the battery terminals to touch any
metal parts of the traction unit.
• Do not allow metal tools to short between
the battery terminals and metal parts of the
traction unit.
5. Disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from
the battery, saving the bolt and nut.
6. Disconnect the positive (red) battery cable from the
battery, saving the bolt and nut.
7. Gently push the hydraulic hoses aside and lift the
battery out of the chassis.
8. Activate and charge the new battery as directed on
the battery labeling.
9. Install the battery into the chassis (Figure 27).
10. Secure the battery in the chassis (Figure 27).
11. Using the bolt and wing nut supplied with the
battery, connect the positive (red) cable to the
positive (+) battery post (Figure 27). Slide the rubber
cover over the battery post.
Incorrect battery cable routing could damage
the traction unit and cables, causing sparks.
Sparks can cause the battery gasses to explode,
resulting in personal injury.
• Always disconnect the negative (black)
battery cable before disconnecting the
positive (red) cable.
• Always connect the positive (red) battery
cable before connecting the negative (black)
cable.
12. Using the bolt and wing nut supplied with the
battery, connect the negative (black) cable to the
negative (-) battery post (Figure 27).
Note: Ensure that the battery cables do not contact
any sharp edges or each other.

Servicing the Battery

Service Interval: Every 100 hours—Check the battery
electrolyte level (replacement battery
only).
Every 100 hours—Check the battery
cable connections.
Important: The following procedures apply when
servicing a (dry) battery that has replaced the
original battery. The original (wet) battery does not
require service.
Always keep the battery clean and fully charged. Use
a paper towel to clean the battery case. If the battery
terminals are corroded, clean them with a solution of
four parts water and one part baking soda. Apply a light
coating of grease to the battery terminals to reduce
corrosion.
Voltage: 12 v, 340 Cold Cranking Amps
Checking the Electrolyte Level
1. Stop the engine and remove the key.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Look at the side of the battery. The electrolyte must
be up to the Upper line (Figure 28). Do not allow the
electrolyte to fall below the Lower line (Figure 28).

4. If the electrolyte is low, add the required amount of
distilled water; refer to Adding Water to the Battery.
Adding Water to the Battery
The best time to add distilled water to the battery is just
before you operate the traction unit. This lets the water
mix thoroughly with the electrolyte solution.
