Note: Determine the left and right side of the machine from the normal operating position.

Installing the Valve Lever

1. Thread the lever into the speed selector valve (Fig. 2).
Note: The lever should be installed with the bend toward
the operator.
2. Tighten the jam nut on the lever to lock it in position.

Activating the Battery

The factory ships the traction unit with a dry battery.
Purchase bulk electrolyte with 1.265 specific gravity from
a local battery supply outlet.
1. Remove the hood; refer to Removing the Hood,
page 25.
2. Remove the wing nuts and bar securing the battery
(Fig. 3).

Break-in oil change
Battery terminals or metal tools could short
against metal components, causing sparks. Sparks
can cause the battery gasses to explode, resulting
in personal injury.
When removing or installing the battery, do not
allow the battery terminals to touch any metal
parts of the traction unit.
Do not allow metal tools to short between the
battery terminals and metal parts of the
traction unit.
