(3) To align the saw blade with the contour line marked
on the workpiece, watch through the saw cover
window to ensure alignment before starting
operation.
(4) If any cuttings, etc., collecting on the transparent
cover of the saw cover window have made it difficult
to see the saw blade end, remove the fixing screws
and clean the cover using cloth or the like.
4. How to cut wide materials
(1) Fig. 10 shows dimensions for wide workpiece cutting
at a right angle (0°). The use of a plate as illustrated
in the figure permits cutting of wide workpieces of
up to 240 mm (9-7/16") (width) × 45mm (1-3/4")
(height).
CAUTION
Since the workpiece needs to be held with a push
by hand during cutting operation, be sure to put
it into a stable, horizontal position and fix it securely
before starting operation.
(2) Fig. 11 shows dimensions for wide workpiece cutting
at an angle of 45°. The use of a plate as illustrated
in the figure permits cutting of wide workpieces of
up to 45 mm (1-3/4") (width) × 150 mm (5-7/8")
(height).
When the tool is shipped, the saw blade is set in
the 130 mm (5-1/8") position. Adjust handle position
to cut wide workpiece of 150 mm (5-7/8") in height.
(Refer to p.5; "Handle position adjustment".)
MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING SAW BLADE
CAUTION
First disconnect the plug from the power plug receptacle.
1. Mounting saw blade (Fig. 12, 13, and Fig. 14)
(1) Press the spindle lock and loosen the bolt (A) with
the box wrench. As the bolt (A) is of lefthand thread,
it is loosened by turning in the direction indicated
in Fig. 12.
CAUTION
If the saw blade spindle cannot be fixed by pressing
the spindle lock, turn the bolt (A) with the box
wrench while pressing the spindle lock. The saw
blade spindle is fixed when the spindle lock has
been lowered.
(2) Remove the bolt (A), washer (B) and collar.
(3) Before mounting the saw blade, carefully clean and
re-install the collar. The collar has an outside
diameter of 30 mm as shown in Fig. 14.
(4) Lift the safety cover and mount the saw blade.
CAUTION
Confirm that the rotation and saw blade directions
are the same.
(5) Thoroughly clean washer (B) and the bolt (A) and
install them onto the saw blade mounting shaft.
(6) Press the spindle lock and tighten the bolt (A) by
turning it with the box wrench in the direction
shown in Fig. 13.
CAUTION
Confirm that the spindle lock which was used for
installation and removal of the saw blade has
returned to the retract position.
2. Dismounting the saw blade.
Dismount the saw blade by following the mounting
procedures in reverse order. The saw blade can
5
easily be changed by lifting up the safety cover.
Use only saw blades with 380 mm (15") or less
diameter.

MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

1. Inspecting the saw blade
Since use of a dull saw blade will degrade efficiency
and cause possible motor malfunction, sharpen or
replace the saw blade as soon as abrasion is noted.
2. Inspecting the mounting screws
Regularly inspect all mounting screws and ensure
that they are properly tightened. Should any of the
screws be loose, retighten them immediately. Failure
to do so could result in serious hazard.
3. Inspecting the carbon brushes (Fig. 15)
The motor employs carbon brushes which are
consumable parts. Since an excessively worn carbon
brush could result in motor trouble, replace a carbon
brush with a new one when it becomes worn to
or near the "wear limit". In addition, always keep
carbon brushes clean and ensure that they slide
freely within the brush holders.
4. Replacing a carbon brush
Disassemble the brush cap with a minus-head
screwdriver. The carbon brush can then be easily
removed.
5. Maintenance of the motor
The motor unit winding is the very "heart" of the
power tool. Exercise due care to ensure the winding
does not become damaged and/or wet with oil or
water.
NOTE
Due to HITACHI's continuing program of research and
development the specifications herein are subject to
