Chapter 1 Overview

Read this chapter if you are using the RAID Battery Backup Unit (called Battery Backup Unit=BBU) for the
first time.
This chapter describes the characteristics and configuration of the BBU and outlines the additional battery
installation procedure.

1. Characteristics of the BBU

Connecting the BBU to the RAID controller can prevent data from being lost in incidents such as
instantaneous power interruptions (in the WriteBack mode).
Backup of data in SDRAMs on the RAID controller for up to 72 hours.
Reliability improvement in WriteBack mode.
Rechargeable lithium ion battery use.
