Introduction to the SPCK420/421 keypads
The SPCK420/421 is a wall-mounted user interface that allows the engineer to
program the system through the Engineer Programming menus (password
protected). It also allows users to set/unset the system and to control the system
on a day-to-day basis. Three LEDs on the keypad provide an indication of AC
power, system alerts and communications status.

1. LC-display: The keypad display (2 lines x 16 characters) is used to show all
alert and warning messages and provides a visual interface for programming
the system. The display backlight can be adjusted through the programming
options. See SPC-series Configuration Manual for further information.
2. Alpha numeric keys: The 10 alphanumeric keys provide for both text and
numeric data entry during programming. Alphabetic characters are selected by
applying the appropriate number of key presses. To switch between upper and
lower case characters press the hash (#) key. To enter a numeric digit, hold
down the appropriate key for 2 seconds.
3. Leverage access tabs: The leverage access tabs provide access to the
keypad back assembly clips. User can unhinge these clips from the front
assembly by inserting a 5 mm screwdriver into the recesses and pushing
gently (see section - Connecting the SPCK420/421).
4. Back assembly securing screw: This screw is used to secure the front and
back assemblies on the keypad. This screw must be removed to open the
keypad.
5. LED Status Indicators: The LED status indicators provide information on the
current status of the system.

the X-BUS communications status is OK.

If the Keypad is being installed for the first time and power is
supplied to it before a connection to the controller X-BUS
interface is made the LED remains in the ON state.
6. Soft function keys (left & right): The left and the right soft function keys are
context sensitive keys to navigate through and program the system.
7. Proximity device receiver area: If the Keypad has been fitted with a
proximity device receiver (SPCK421), users should present the Portable ACE
Fob to within 1 cm of this area to SET/UNSET the system.
8. Multi-functional navigation key: The multi-functional navigation key in
combination with the keypad display provides an interface for programming
the system.

Wireless support
An optional SiWay RF-Module (SPCW112) is available to provide a wireless
interface (868 MHz) for the keypads. This kit enables Intrunet wireless devices (for
example, remote controls, magnetic contacts or motion detectors) to be enrolled
on the system. Refer to the SPCW112 installation instructions for details of
mounting the wireless module in the keypad.
Wall mounting the keypad
Install the keypad at human eye height (130-140 cm) for clear display
visibility.
Proximity Detection
To wall mount the SPCK420/421:
Remove the securing screw using an appropriate screwdriver and press
firmly on both leverage access tabs until the back of the keypad detaches
with a downward motion.

Position the back of the keypad into the desired location on the wall
allowing the alarm cables access through the cable access area. Mark the
position of the keypad on the wall using the positioning screw hole and
remove the keypad.

Drill the remaining 2 holes and screw the back of the keypad onto the wall
ensuring that the alarm cables are easily accessible through the cable access
area. Remove the breakout tabs to allow bottom or side cable access to the
keypad.

X-BUS interface on the keypad PCB
Connect the wires to the X-BUS interface on the keypad PCB (see section
5- Connecting the SPCK420/421). Ensure that the power terminals (+12V
and 0V) are connected to the corresponding wires on each cable.
Re-attach the front of the keypad to the back by aligning the securing clips
into the leverage access tabs and slowly but firmly pressing the top of the
keypad until it clicks into place.
Drill a hole in the wall in the marked position and align the positioning screw
hole directly over it. With the back of the keypad in a horizontal position,
mark the exact position of the remaining 2 drill holes through the securing
screw holes.
Connecting the keypad
Never run keypad wires alongside telephone wires, high voltage wires, or
transmitting antennas. Keypad wires should be wired separately and not in
the same cable with other devices (telephone, PIRs, and so on). Do not use
the keypad as a junction box for wiring power to sensors.
The SPCK420/421 receives its power (12 VDC) and communications via
connections to the terminal block interface inside the keypad housing.
To access this terminal block the front and back keypad assemblies must be
detached by removing the securing screw using an appropriate screwdriver.
On removing the securing screw, insert the top of a 5 mm flat-head screwdriver (or
equivalent) into one of the leverage access tabs and press in slowly but firmly until
the front assembly moves out from the back of the keypad. Repeat this operation
on the second access area until the back of the keypad detaches with a downward
motion.

Termination Jumper. This jumper as a default is always fitted, however,
when wiring for Star configuration this fitting should be removed (see section
Wiring the X-BUS interface).
Wiring the X-BUS interface
The X-BUS interface provides connection of expanders and keypads to the SPC
controller. The X-BUS can be wired in a number of different configurations
depending on the installation requirements.
NOTE: Maximum System cable length = number of Expanders and Keypads in the
system x maximum distance for cable type.

Fig. 6 shows the wiring of the X-BUS to an expander/controller and the following
expander/controller in Spur Configuration. If using a Spur configuration, the last
keypad is not wired back to the controller.
