3-2 Fibre Channel Storage Unit Installation and
Startup
This section explains how to install, connect, and start
the Fibre Channel Storage Unit.
3-2-1 Installation
Mount the Fibre Channel Storage Unit in a rack using
the supplied rack mount kit. Do not attempt to mount
the Fibre Channel Storage Unit yourself. Ask your
Sony service representative to mount it in the rack.
Notes
• As the storage unit connected to this system, always
use a DMW-ST001. Sony Corporation shall not be
liable for any trouble or malfunctions that may occur
as the result of using a different storage unit.
• To connect the Fibre Channel Storage Unit to the
DMW-S05NL Main Unit, it is required that the
DMW-STA001 or LSI44929o Fibre Channel
Interface Board be installed in the Main Unit.
• When using two or more Fibre Channel Storage Units
per fibre channel interface port, make sure that the
Fibre channel unit address of each unit is unique.
• If you change a Fibre channel unit address, power the
Fibre Channel Storage Unit off after changing it and
then restart.
• Turn off the power supply before unplugging the
power cord from the supply.
Caution
• The Fibre Channel Storage Unit should always be
mounted by two or more persons. If it is mounted by
one person working alone, it may be dropped, which
can result in injury and damage to the equipment.
• Leave a plenty of space in front of and behind the
Fibre Channel Storage Unit, and make sure that the
ventilation slots are not blocked.
3-2-2 Connection to the Main

Notes
• The AC power unit of a Fibre Channel Storage Unit may be
installed on the upper or on the lower side of the Fibre Channel
Storage Unit. The illustration above shows it installed on the
lower side.
• In SDTV systems, Fibre Channel Storage Units may be
connected to either fibre channel port 0 or fibre channel port 1.
• When the LSI44929o Fibre Channel Interface Board is used,
the supplied fibre channel cable cannot be used. Acquire a
dedicated MIA (Media Interface Adapter) and optical fibre cable
such as the following recommended ones.
