3-4 Floppy Disks and Disc Media
To eject a floppy disk
Press the floppy disk eject button.
Note
Never eject a floppy disk while the floppy disk active
indicator is lit or flashing. Doing so can corrupt the
data stored on the floppy disk.
Using the write protect notch
You can protect important data on a floppy disk
against being overwritten by setting the write protect
notch on the reverse side of the disk. When the notch
is set, data on the disk can be read, but the disk cannot
be formatted or written to. If you want to format the
disk or write data to it, reset the notch to its original
position.

3-4-2 Using Disc Media

Caution
Be sure to observe the following safety precautions
when using disc media. Failure to observe these
precautions can result in injury or damage.
• Do not leave the disc tray open.
• Do not connect headphones while you are wearing
them.
Handling disc media
Observe the following precautions when handling disc
media.
• Do not drop discs.
• Do not bend discs or place object on top of them.
• Do not attach labels to discs.
• Do not touch the signal side (the side with nothing
printed on it) with your hands.
• Protect discs against scratches, and do not write
directly on them with pens or pencils.
• Do not expose discs to high temperatures, for
example by leaving them in direct sunlight or near
heaters.
• Protect discs from cigarette smoke.
Caring for disc media
Keep discs clean by removing dust and fingerprints.

Storing disc media
For long-term storage of disc media, use a special case
designed for that purpose.
