3.2 Installing and commissioning the RF120C
Procedure for installation and commissioning
Note
Installation location
All RF120C communications modules must be installed to the left beside the SIMATIC S7-
1200. During installation, make sure that the upper and lower ventilation slits of the module
are not obstructed and good ventilation is possible. Above and below the device, there must
be a clearance of 25 mm to allow air to circulate and prevent overheating.
Remember that the permitted temperature ranges depend on the position of the installed
device.
Device position / permitted temperature range
Horizontal installation of the rack:
0 °C to 55 °C
Vertical installation of the rack:
0 °C to 45 °C
NOTICE
Connection with power off
Wire up the SIMATIC S7-1200 and modules to be connected only when the power is off.
Note
Power supply from the power outputs of the CPU
Connected modules obtain their power via the backplane bus of the SIMATIC S7-1200.
Readers or code reading systems connected to the CM require an additional external power
supply via the CM. Keep within the maximum load of the power outputs of the CPU.
You will find data relating to the current consumption and power loss of the CM in the
section "Technical data (Page 33)".
The RF120C communications module must be grounded via the shield.
