General disassembly procedures assume that the following removal procedures
(described at the beginning of this chapter) have been accomplished:

AC adapter

Port replicator
•
PC Card
•
Hard-disk drive
•
Memory (module cover and modules)
•
Options bay device
•
Main battery

Preparation

There are many screws of various sizes. To assist in keeping track of the
screws, use a tackle or pill box as a storage device. A location template (see
Figure 4-19) is useful as a label for the storage device for the screws. The infor-
mation in parentheses ( ) denotes the screw name(s) called out in the figures. Be
careful not to scratch the computer plastic case by allowing the screws to get
between the disassembly surface and the plastic case. Also, to prevent case
scratches, a soft padded work surface is suggested.

CAUTION: During the following removal and replacement procedures,
you will see Kapton tape in many places on the computer. When rein-
stalling or replacing parts, be sure to replace the Kapton tape correctly
to retain the electrical protection and noise reduction the tape provides.
